The Four C's of Law Firm Marketing Success

by: Stephen Fairley,
CEO, The Rainmaker Institute

Having trouble finding the time to take your law firm's marketing campaign to the next level?

Spending thousands of dollars and countless hours of energy developing an effective law firm marketing campaign?

It doesn't have to be that way. Law firm marketing is painless and fruitful with the right tools, information and a proven strategy for success.

Marketing is simply building a relationship with prospects that tell them who you are, who you help, and why you are different. Law firm marketing isn't rocket science, but it does require using proven strategies and tactics to achieve optimum results. Most attorneys don't instinctively know how to build a financially successful law practice, but you can discover how to apply a proven system for growing your law firm.

For example, any time you present a marketing message, remember to follow the Rule of the Four C's:

Rule 1. Communicate. Good marketing is all about communication. Communicate with people at their point of need. Otherwise, your message fails to motivate them to take action. Create a sense of urgency that must be relieved. Make them realize a need for your legal services and then communicate your message in professional, yet clear and compelling manner.

Once you stir up an urgent need in customers, you won't have to chase down clients any more. Potential customers will be at your door to retain legal services. That's how you know your marketing campaign is effectively communicating your services.

Rule 2: Consistency. Consistency is critical to your law firm's success. Never assume that you've gotten a message across by offering a single message only once. Repetition is a vital part of putting your law firm marketing message at the front of peoples' minds. If you fail to be consistent, you confuse people and muddle your marketing message.

Rule 3: Concise. Brevity pays off and makes your law firm marketing strategies memorable. People don't listen to convoluted messages attentively; even if you know it's important, they may not hear it. Nobody wants to be on the business end of complicated legal jargon. Don't crowd a bundle of messages into a single headline. Even if you're spending a pretty penny for ad space, keep it simple and concise. It's not how much you say that's most important. It's how much of what you say is grasped and retained.

Rule 4: Contagious. Your law firm marketing message must be a contagious one. If your message isn't contagious, it's going to get lost in the crowd. Building a contagious energy is at the heart of good marketing.

The Four C's of basic law firm marketing plans seem simple enough, but are often lost in the advertising shuffle. Many times people clutter up the simplest of marketing campaigns. There are many occasions in marketing where less says a whole lot more. The finesse required to make a campaign contagious requires more than just a few simple sentences.

I highly recommend it."
John Wollman, Esq, Partner Business Litigation & IP
